LOW VISION ASSESSMENTS

The practice has undertaken further accreditation to be able to provide a Low Vision service to eligible patients.

This is a particularly satisfying area of work as many elderly people with poor eyesight can often feel resigned to the fact that nothing can be done to help their vision. It’s very pleasing to issue a low vision aid that allows someone to read the newspaper again having not read for years.

Qualified Opticians offer Help and Advice

If someone has very poor eyesight and may be eligible to be registered as blind or partially sighted we can offer advice on how to go about this. Registration can bring some benefits including financial assistance. (Occasionally you may come across the terms 'Sight Impaired' and 'Severely Sight Impaired' as these have replaced the terms 'Partially Sighted' and 'Registered as Blind').

  • Many elderly patients have Low Vision which is commonly caused by Macular Degeneration, Cataracts or Glaucoma.
  • Low Vision Assessments are available free of charge. Low vision aids are issued on loan, free of charge.
  • This service is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and is only available to eligible patients within Wales.

The Welsh Low Vision Service

The Welsh Low Vision Service is a scheme funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. It makes provision for patients whose eyesight falls below a certain level whereby we can make the most of the vision that they do have with practical assistance or low vision aids.
